Cornish Rex – The facts every owner of this cat breed should know
The Cornish Rex breed began as a happy accident of nature. A genetic mutation in a liter of kittens born in 1950 in Cornwall, United Kingdom, has resulted in kittens that had extremely fine and curly by the hair, not the typical thick coat like most breeds of cat. Even the whiskers are curly! Breeders have been affected by this, and decided to replicate the selective nature by inbreeding and crossbreeding. Many other breeds of cats were used during this period so that the "coat" on a Cornish Rex is available in many colors and patterns.
They are small and medium enterprises with an aspect cats very thin and live about thirteen years. Although they may feel heavier than they look, Cornish Rex are very thin and boneless of lean muscle. A Cornish Rex may also have a peculiar odor that some have described as "cheesy" this smell is produced from scent glands in the legs.
Many people think that a Cornish Rex is a good pet for people with allergies, but they allow some (but much less compared to other breeds best) and regular grooming. Cornish Rex make excellent pets as they love being with humans are social and playful, curious and affectionate. Although very active at certain times, they enjoy taking breaks and Cornish Rex can often be found curled up on the sofa or in a tower.
Although they love being pet and maintained, because of the nature of the layer, Cornish Rex should not be brushed too harshly, because this could damage the hair. They get cold easily and should be kept indoors. In addition, Cornish Rex can be prone to baldness, a condition known as hypotrichosis.
There is a site that has a wealth of information on the Cornish Rex and most other breeds cats. It has details that pertain to a cat breeds health, grooming, living conditions, better food choices and more, the site is called: Dog And Cat Facts, and can be found at:
