Can-rock filter heavy metals?
I study a stream polluted by heavy metals. At one point the concentrations of zinc are through the roof, but the stream disappears under a landslide collapsed 60 meters. When the flow reapears zinc levels are low almost nothing. Helping those who help us on this?
I think you'll find that zinc is soluble and leach into waterways as creeks and streams. That's why you could measure it in a water sample. I do not think the rock or sand can filter out dissolved metals. There may be some interaction with the clay surface, but he thinks it would be negligible. I think the reason for the reduction of Zn on your site monitoring the second is due to not being connected to the original site. I may be part of a different aquifer. Finding metals similar in the two test sites indicates a link in the groundwater, but in this case it is not.
